Petricka Promoted to Chicago

August 17, 2013

(Fort Mill, SC) - Charlotte right-handed reliever Jake Petricka, who went 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA in 10 games for the Knights this season, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox today. Petricka, who takes the spot of former Knights reliever Ramon Troncoso (DL), is ranked as the 16th best prospect in the White Sox system by Baseball America.

A native of Northfield, MN, Petricka was promoted to the Knights from Double-A Birmingham on July 4. He made his Triple-A debut later that day against the Gwinnett Braves and earned his first career Triple-A win after allowing a run over two innings. Since then, the Indiana State product allowed just one run over his next nine games. In 15.1 innings pitched with the Knights, he has 17 strikeouts.

Petricka, 25, began the season with the Barons and went 3-0 with a 2.06 ERA over 21 games (one start). In 39.1 innings pitched this season with Birmingham, he struck out 41 batters.

He becomes the 15th different Knights player to earn a promotion to Chicago this year. He joins Deunte Heath, Tyler Greene, Jordan Danks, Blake Tekotte, Brian Omogrosso, Donnie Veal, Ramon Troncoso, Brent Morel, Simon Castro, David Purcey, Josh Phegley, Andre Rienzo, Avisail Garcia, and Charlie Leesman, who have all been promoted in 2013.

The Knights return home to Knights Stadium tonight to open a three-game series with the Durham Bulls. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the 7:15 p.m. contest. Saturday's game features a special JDRF "Swing for the Cure Night" presented by Atlas Copco. There will be a special jersey auction with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the JDRF Charlotte Chapter. The KnightinGals will also be on hand to entertain the crowd and the Knights will light-up-the sky with a post-game fireworks show, courtesy of BB&T Ballpark and News Talk 1110 WBT.
