PawSox can't handle Hanson, Braves win 5-0

April 30, 2009

Tommy Hanson is rated by Baseball America as the number one prospect in the Atlanta organization, and on Thursday night, the PawSox learned why. The 6'6 fireballer struck out 9 Pawtucket batters in 6 innings, scattering 3 hits, leading his club to a 5-0 win at McCoy Stadium.

Sean Danielson doubled in the first, Chris Carter singled, but the Sox left the bases loaded. Angel Chavez singled in the second and after that, the PawSox went hitless. Charlie Zink (0-3) took the loss. Zink struggled with his control, walking 5 and hitting three others. Lefty Chris George contributed 3 scoreless innings of relief for Pawtucket.

Gwinnett scored 4 runs on 4 hits in the fourth. The one run they tallied in the first would have been enough. The PawSox and Braves continue the series on Friday night at 6:15 p.m. Kris Medlen (2-0) faces Michael Bowden (1-0).
