Jeter to Rehab with RailRiders Again Starting Thursday
Moosic, Pa. - With just six home games remaining on their regular-season, the impetus to be a part of the historic inaugural season at the new PNC Field has been kicked up a notch. Derek Jeter will begin a minor league rehab assignment with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) starting Thursday, Aug. 22 when SWB hosts the defending Governor's Cup champion Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston).
Jeter is a career .313 hitter in the big leagues with 3,308 hits. The 13-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner had never played for SWB before this season. The lone rehab stints for the sure-fire Hall of Famer over the last decade both came with Double-A Trenton in 2003 and 2011. That changed when Jeter played in four games as a RailRider from July 6-10, going 1-for-9 with four walks. The American League's Rookie of the Year in 1996 is coming off of an outstanding 2012 in which he hit .316 and led the bigs with 216 hits, one of his eight career campaigns with over 200 knocks.
