JetHawks' Gaston does it again
Gaston had his second three-homer game of the season and drove in a career-high seven runs Wednesday, powering the Lancaster JetHawks to a 17-4 rout of Lake Elsinore.
Last month, Gaston shared the headline with Brian Pellegrini as both went deep three times in a 14-3 romp over the Inland Empire 66ers. But the 2008 seventh-round Draft pick had the spotlight all to himself against the Storm.
After singling in the first inning, Gaston launched a two-run homer -- his second in as many nights -- in the third. He led off the fifth with his second of the game and connected again in the sixth for a three-run blast.
With a chance to tie the California League record for homers in a game, shared by former JetHawks Aaron Bates and Brad Correll, Gaston plated another run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center field.
The 22-year-old left fielder capped his 5-for-5 night with another single in the ninth as Lancaster amassed a league season-high 25 hits. He is 6-for-8 with four homers and nine RBIs in the first two games of the series, which wraps up Thursday.
Gaston came to Lake Elsinore mired in a 2-for-12 slump that knocked his average down to .225. It's back up to .273, while he moved into second place in the league with nine homers.
The University of Arizona product was one of five JetHawks who had at least three hits. Craig Corrado was 4-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored, Marcos Cabral went 3-for-4 with a pair of walks and four runs scored and Chris Minaker collected three doubles and two RBIs and scored twice.
