Spikes Help Kids Share in Value at Ballpark
Kids can get started by sharing in the Spikes’ commitment to providing the absolute best value to fans this year. Every Thursday, kids 12 and under get a voucher for a free hot dog, chips and soda as part of Kids Eat Free Thursdays at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Plus, kids will once again have the opportunity to run the bases after every Friday, Saturday and Sunday home game.
Young fans can also enjoy the wettest day of the summer at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Wednesday, July 22 with Super Splash Day. The Spikes will turn the ballpark into a water park, and kids can wear their swimsuits and frolic in the water when they’re not enjoying the action on the field. Game time for Super Splash Day is noon as the Spikes will face the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox).
The Spikes will give youngsters the opportunity to learn from the pros this summer, too, at the Spikes’ Youth Baseball Clinics on Sunday, June 28 and Sunday, July 12. Spikes players will be on hand to teach kids the fundamentals of baseball, including tips on hitting, pitching and fielding. Registration begins at 11 a.m. each day, with the clinic running from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Clinic instructors will then be available for autographs until 3 p.m. Admission to the Youth Baseball Clinics is free with a ticket to that night’s game. Games on each clinic date will start at 6:05 p.m., with the Spikes taking on the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians) on June 28 and the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins) on July 12.
In addition, the Spikes will hold their first ever Youth Soccer Clinic on Saturday, August 1. Kids must be pre-registered to participate, and the clinic is free with a ticket to that night’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Auburn Doubledays (Toronto Blue Jays). The clinic will run from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., with autographs available afterward until 3 p.m.
“Families already get the most affordable entertainment at Spikes games here at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, but being able to give the kids a great time is very close to our hearts,” said Spikes General Manager Jason Dambach. “Everything from the youth clinics to Super Splash Day is designed to give our young fans a playground where they’ll get some great memories to cherish for a lifetime.”
Kids won’t just be able to use Medlar Field at Lubrano Park as a playground this year. On Friday, August 21, the ballpark will turn into a campground for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts with the Scout Night Sleepover. Campers will be able to pitch a tent in the outfield and sleep under the stars at a real professional ballpark after the Spikes take on the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) at 7:05 p.m.
Kids will also have the opportunity to be recognized at the ballpark on Tuesday, June 30, when the Spikes hold Books and Baseball Night. Youths who performed well in the Books and Baseball program during the 2008-2009 school year will be honored when the Spikes take on the Scrappers at 7:05 p.m.
Fans ages 14 and under can get started on all the fun by joining the Spikes Kids Club. The club is open to any kid age 14 or under, and includes a free ticket to every Sunday home game, as well as a free ticket to two select Friday home games in 2009. Kids Club members also get 10 percent off of all merchandise when presenting their membership cards, plus the opportunity for an exclusive meet and greet with Spikes players before each designated Friday home game.
Members of the Spikes Kids Club can also participate in the Kids Club Kickoff on Sunday, June 21 before the Spikes’ 6:05 p.m. matchup against their SawBuck Series rivals, the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies).
