G-Braves Add Pitcher Freddy Garcia

Veteran right-hander acquired by Atlanta from Baltimore on Friday

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Right-hander Freddy Garcia, acquired by Atlanta from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations on Friday, August 23, has been assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Garcia, 36, went 3-5 with a 5.77 ERA (34 ER in 53.0 IP) in 11 appearances, 10 starts for Baltimore this season. He was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk in June and made 13 starts for the Tides, going 8-3 with a 2.84 ERA (26 ER in 82.1 IP).

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Garcia was originally signed as a free agent in 1993 by the Houston Astros. He has logged 15 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Seattle Mariners (1999-2004), Chicago White Sox (2004-06, 2009-10), Philadelphia Phillies (2007), Detroit Tigers (2008), New York Yankees (2011-12) and Baltimore Orioles (2013). In 370 career games, 354 starts, he is a combined 155-106 with a 4.18 ERA (1,040 ER in 2,236.2 IP).

The Gwinnett Braves (56-77) play game two of a four-game series against the Columbus Clippers (65-68) at Huntington Park in Columbus, OH on Friday night. Right-hander David Hale (6-7, 2.80) will start for the G-Braves, while the Clippers counter with left-hander T.J. House (6-10, 4.32). First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM. The radio broadcast will air on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play.
