Cole Kimball Added to P-Nats Roster
With the move the Nationals active roster now stands at 25.
Kimball, a 12th round pick by the Nationals in the 2006 first-year player draft, made 27 starts for the Low-A Hagerstown Suns in 2008 going 6-8 with a 5.05 ERA. Kimball was fourth in the Nationals system with 122 strikeouts in 128 1/3 innings pitched. A live arm, the New Jersey native held opponents to a .226 batting average in 2008 and a .239 mark in his three professional seasons.
He made his mark in Potomac last season, throwing three shutout innings in the P-Nats' 15-0 Game 1 victory over Myrtle Beach in the Mills Cup Final, earning a save.
The 6-3 right-hander will likely join a Potomac bullpen who has been hard-pressed for playing time during the team's seven-game win streak due to the consistently superb outings from the starting rotation. During the seven-game streak, Potomac Nationals starters have thrown a combined 42 innings while allowing only three runs in the process.
After completing a four-game sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium, the P-Nats will look to continue their winning ways in Winston-Salem as they begin a three-game series Friday night.
