Hansen fans career-high 11 in loss
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 23, 2013) -- Kannapolis starter Kyle Hansen struck out a career-high 11 batters, but the Rome Braves tagged him with a loss, 5-1, on Friday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The win for Rome was its seventh straight.
Hansen (6-8) equaled his previous career-high of seven when he struck out Felix Marte to end the fourth inning. After fanning another batter during his perfect fifth inning, he returned to strike out the side in a perfect sixth, running his new total to 11.
Hansen battled over 6.0 innings of work, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits with no walks.
Braves catcher Tyler Tewell, a Charlotte native who attended Butler High School in Matthews, blasted a two-run home run off Hansen as part of a 3-run fourth inning.
Rome got on the board in the third on an Eric Garcia RBI-single, plating Jose Peraza. Peraza finished 3-for-5, falling a home run shy of the cycle with two runs scored, both on Garcia singles.
Frank Lafreniere (7-12) earned the win, limiting the Intimidators to a run on eight hits over 6.0 innings. Reliever Tyler Brosius made his Class A debut, striking out the side in a perfect seventh for the Braves, and Jeremy Fitzgerald worked 2.0 scoreless innings to close out the game.
Hansen is the second straight Intimidators starter to strike out double digit batters. Thursday night, Tony Bucciferro fanned 10 in the Intimidators 1-0 win over Savannah.
