Things
to do in the MWL when you're...
It's Monday and the team is
spending it's off day in
South Bend
,
Indiana
. I've always wondered what I
would do if I had time to spend an off day in each Midwest League city.
So, consider this a Bucket List for
the Midwest League. I'll go in
reverse alphabetical order and leave out the hometown team.
That's a whole separate list.
West Michigan
: This would have been so easy a
couple of seasons ago. The team
hotel was within walking distance of the Gerald
Ford Presidential Museum and the Grand
Rapids Public Museum. There is a
space capsule outside the
Public
Museum
that piqued my interest. But, never
enough to go inside when there was a game that night.
South Bend
: Notre Dame campus, Golden Dome...blah, blah, blah...Been there, done that,
avoided buying an overpriced t-shirt. Now,
the National Studebaker Museum!
There ya go. If only I had
time today...
Quad Cities:
I'm not much of a golfer, but it would be nice to hack around a bit on TPC
Deere Run over in
East Moline
. It's the home course for the PGA
Tour's John Deere Classic.
I might be able to break 200.
Peoria
: Since I already took a riverboat ride on the
Illinois River
at the All-Star Game in 2005...A tour of the Caterpillar Plant?
Do they give those?
Lansing
: I wouldn't mind going over to the Michigan State Campus in
East Lansing
wearing one of my
Wisconsin
hats. If I asked nicely, do you
think they would point me in the direction of the basketball arena?
Kane
County
: The team stays in
Naperville
. There is this little multiplex
that shows films that are about a year out of date.
Has anyone seen The Dark Knight?
I hear it's pretty good. Maybe
I can see The Bucket List that day, too for a Morgan Freeman double feature.
Fort Wayne
: I'm not sure.
Johnny
Appleseed Park?
Dayton
: Easy.
Hangar 18 at
Wright Patterson Air Force Base. I
want to believe.
Clinton
: I really need to tour the Purina
Plant there. If you've been to
Clinton
, you will understand why I need to do that.
Cedar Rapids
: Tour of the Quaker Oats plant.
See
Clinton
above for the reason.
Burlington
: I have been down Snake
Alley in a car, but I'd need to bike it or walk it just to try and
understand it.
Beloit
:
I'd walk to
Janesville
.
