Nuts Welcome 5 Millionth Fan to John Thurman Field

May 17, 2009
The Modesto Nuts Professional Baseball Club welcomed its 5 millionth fan to John Thurman Field on Sunday, May 17 during the team's afternoon contest against the San Jose Giants. Modesto native and Nuts fan Shel Thompson walked through the stadium gates and received a warm welcome from Nuts mascots Wally the Walnut and Al the Almond, as well as members of the front office staff.

Upon arrival Thompson was escorted to one of the Modesto Nuts' luxury suite boxes to enjoy the game, and given a gift package, including a trip for two to Rockies spring training in March, 2010. Thompson was also given a team autographed jersey and baseball, an official Modesto Nuts jersey, two Nuts baseball caps and a Nuts foam finger, as well as a variety of prizes from Nuts sponsors Primeshine Express, In N Out Burger, Del Taco, Fuddruckers and the Black Oak Casino. Also included in the 5 Millionth Fan package were the opportunity to watch a future Nuts game from a suite, watch Nuts batting practice from the field and throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a future Modesto Nuts game.

Thompson, who has been attending minor league baseball games in Modesto since he was eight years old, was ecstatic to be the 5 millionth person through the gates at John Thurman Field.

"The city of Modesto has a lot to offer," said Thompson. "My good fortune is to inspire all the former Pioneer League baseball players and everyone who loves baseball and Modesto to come out and enjoy this great facility."
