Aeros Silence SeaWolves on Wednesday

August 28, 2013

The SeaWolves bats went silent on Wednesday night in Akron as they were shut out by the Aeros 5-0 at Canal Park. The SeaWolves magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at three games with the loss.

Erie loaded the bases in the top of the second on Akron starter Brett Brach. With two outs, Wade Gaynor, Brandon Douglas and Luis Castillo each singled. Erie would leave the bases loaded and would not get a runner to third base the remainder of the game.

Akron jumped ahead in the bottom of the second against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Adam Abraham singled and Matt Lawson was hit by a pitch putting two on with no outs. Jake Lowery sent a line drive to center and on a Jamie Johnson error, the Aeros loaded the bases. Chris Wallace singled home Abraham for a 1-0 lead and Lawson scored on a Jose Ramirez sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

The Aeros added a run in the third. Tyler Holt led off with his second of three singles and moved into scoring position on an Abraham single. Holt stole third and scored on a Lowery knock for a 3-0 lead.

Akron added two more in the fifth. Holt led off with a single and moved to second on a Carlos Moncrief groundout. Abraham followed with a ground ball to short that Eugenio Suarez fielded but air mailed the throw into the dugout allowing Holt to score for a 4-0 lead. Abraham later scored on a groundout making it 5-0.

Saupold (7-6) took the loss allowing five runs, one earned, on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six innings.

The SeaWolves and Aeros meet in the final game of the series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Kelvin Perez (1-2, 5.71 ERA) takes the mound for Eire against RHP Will Roberts (7-9, 4.52 ERA).
