Constanza Recalled, Gattis Joins G-Braves
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Atlanta Braves have recalled outfielder Jose Constanza from Triple-A Gwinnett while optioning catcher Evan Gattis to Gwinnett, announced on Saturday, August 31.
Constanza, one day shy of his 30th birthday, is back with the Major League club for the second time this season. He hit .160 (4-for-25) with a run scored and an RBI in 14 games from July 13 to August 7. In his third season with Gwinnett, he hit .276 (94-for-341) with seven doubles, three triples, 39 runs scored, 17 RBIs and a team-high 21 stolen bases. The left-handed hitting outfielder has surged in August, batting .317 (26-for-82) in 19 games.
Gattis, 27, joins Gwinnett for the second time this season. He played in two road games at Durham on July 12 and 13 while rehabbing a strained right oblique injury, batting .125 (1-for-8) with a double. The National League's Rookie of the Month in both April and May, Gattis has hit .238 (61-for-256) with 14 doubles, 15 home runs and 47 RBIs in 80 games with Atlanta. He is expected to join the G-Braves for the opener of their three-game series at Charlotte tonight.
The Gwinnett Braves will finish their 2013 slate on the road as they begin a three-game series with the Charlotte Knights at 7:15 PM on Saturday night. Right-hander Freddy Garcia (8-4, 3.56) will start for the G-Braves, while the Knights will counter with right-hander Stephen McCray (0-3, 9.35). The radio broadcast will air on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Judd Hickinbotham calling the play-by-play.
The next G-Braves' home game at Coolray Field will take place on Friday, April 11, 2014 against the Durham Bulls.
