Medica Named TL Player of the Week

San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions are proud to announce that Tommy Medica was named Texas League Player of the Week for August 26-September 2.

In his final eight games of the regular season, Medica hit .419 (13-for-31) with four doubles, three homers, eight RBI and 10 runs scored. For the week, he ranked first in the TL in runs scored, extra-base hits with seven, total bases with 26 and OPS at 1.293. Medica was also tied for first in doubles, second in SLG at .839, tied for second in homers, tied for third in RBI, fourth in AVG and tied for fourth in hits.

Since returning from the disabled list (oblique) on July 3, Medica is batting .293 with 16 doubles, two triples, 12 homers, 42 RBI and 34 runs scored. During that 55-game stretch, Tommy was first in the TL in extra-base hits with 27 and second in homers, RBI, total bases with 117, SLG at .563 and OPS at .920.

In his 76 games with San Antonio this year, the 25-year-old first baseman hit .296 (83-for-280) with 20 doubles, a team-leading 18 homers, 57 RBI and 48 runs scored. Counting his two dingers while rehabbing with the AZL Padres, Medica finished 2013 with 20 homers, the most in the San Diego system.

San Diego selected Medica in the 14th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA.

San Antonio begins their South Division Playoff Series with Corpus Christi Wednesday night at Whataburger Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. Matt Wisler (8-5, 3.00) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Hooks will counter with fellow righty Mike Foltynewicz (5-3, 2.87).

San Antonio will return to the Wolff on Friday, September 6 to host Game 3 of the TLDS, with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM.
