Dragons Ride Big Inning to 6-4 Win

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons scored six runs in the third inning, collecting six consecutive extra base hits, and held on for a 6-4 victory over the Beloit Snappers on Sunday night at Fifth Third Field. The Dragons have won the first two games of the series and will go for the sweep in the finale of the set on Monday night.
Trailing 1-0 with one out and the bases empty in the third inning, the next six Dragons batters collected two home runs, three doubles, and a triple in one of the biggest innings of the year to take a 6-1 lead.
The score remained unchanged going to the ninth inning when the Snappers put together a big inning against Dragons reliever Andrew Bowman, scoring three runs on four hits and two walks before Bowman got Danny Rams to pop out to first base with the bases loaded and the tying run at second to end the game.
The Dragons big inning started with a bunt single by Kevyn Feiner, but Feiner was thrown out trying to steal second. Josh Fellhauer followed with his the first home run of his professional career, a shot to right, to tie the game. Andrew Means lined a double to left, and Byron Wiley drilled a two-base hit to the base of the center field fence to bring in Means. Carlos Mendez lined a triple to right to drive in Means and make it 3-1. Cody Puckett smacked a double to the fence in left, scoring Mendez. Tony Brown launched a home run to straight away center, a two-run shot, to make it 6-1 and provide the game's last runs prior to the ninth.
Dragons starting pitcher Matt Fairel improved his record to 7-5 with the win. Fairel went six innings, allowing five hits and one run with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Fellhauer's home run extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games, giving him the longest hitting streak of the year for a Dayton player.
The Dragons had nine hits. Mendez went 2 for 4 as the only player with multiple hits.
The Dragons (9-14, 37-56) host the Snappers (9-14, 36-57) in the home stand finale and the last game of the three-game series at Fifth Third Field on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Curtis Partch (6-7, 4.75) will start for Dayton against Beloit's Liam Hendriks (1-1, 1.46).
