Spikes, WTAJ to Hold Free Shredding Event

Going Green Tuesday event allows fans to protect their identities and the environment
July 20, 2009
The State College Spikes and WTAJ's Central PA Green are offering a free shredding event for residential documents on Tuesday, July 21 as part of the Spikes' Going Green Tuesday series presented by WTAJ. The event will be held at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park from noon to 7 p.m., leading up to the Spikes' 7:05 p.m. matchup with the Lowell Spinners, affiliates of the Boston Red Sox.

This shredding event will help protect people from identity theft and allow them to recycle paper that would go into landfills. Residents may bring up to forty pounds of residential documents to the event. Burgmeier's Shredding, which is NAID certified for information destruction, is providing the shredding services for the event.

Fans can shred their documents throughout the day, then return for the Going Green Tuesday matchup at 7:05 p.m. It will also be Buck Bleacher Night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, with all Outfield Bleacher seats available for just $1. The first 1,500 fans of all ages through the gates will receive the Going Green Tuesday giveaway of a Spikes Barbecue Apron presented by PJ Harrigan's. The apron, made of recycled materials, is just one of the giveaways that occurs during every Going Green Tuesday.

"We are pleased to partner with our friends at WTAJ to provide this valuable and educational service to residents of State College and the Centre Region," said Jason Dambach, State College Spikes General Manager. "Both the Spikes and WTAJ, with their Central PA Green initiative, are committed to the green movement and document shredding is just one of the ways we can help do our part for the environment. WTAJ has held other shredding events throughout our region and we are very pleased to work them to bring this event to State College."

Central PA Green is a program that works to educate, inspire and inform people in the area about things they can do to make a difference with the environment.
