The RoughRiders defeat Corpus Christi behind a home run and five RBI by Mitch Moreland
July 19, 2009
The RoughRiders used the long ball once again to defeat the Hooks on Sunday, 9-6, and leave Corpus Christi with the series tied. Mitch Moreland and Chad Tracy each hit home runs and Moreland had a game-best five RBI. The RoughRiders scored nine runs despite just seven hits.

The RoughRiders scored six of their runs over the first two frames with two runs in the first inning when Moreland hit a two-run double. Corpus tied the score at two in the bottom of the first, but Frisco scored four in the second inning when Craig Gentry hit an RBI single followed by back-to-back bases loaded walks to score Guilder Rodriguez and Marcus Lemon to give Frisco the 6-2 advantage. The Hooks plated another run in the third frame to make the score 6-3, but Frisco scored three more in the seventh inning when Mitch Moreland hit a two-run home run followed by a solo homer by Chad Tracy. Corpus mounted a comeback with three in the bottom of the seventh, but the RoughRiders held on for the 9-6 victory.

Frisco starter Michael Kirkman (3-4) allowed five runs on three hits and five walks, striking out four. Jose Diaz notched his eighth save with a scoreless ninth frame. Hooks' starter Sergio Perez (7-9) allowed six runs over just one inning of work.

Moreland was the only player with a multi-hit performance, collecting a double and two-run homer and five RBI. Tracy's homer ties him with Colin DeLome for the league-lead in home runs (16) and gives him 70 RBI on the season.

The RoughRiders now return to Frisco for a four-game series against second-place San Antonio beginning Monday with first pitch at 7 p.m.
