Boscan along with pitchers Justin Grimm, Brooks Raley, Zach Rosscup, and Chang-Yong Lim. The Cubs needed to open up spots on the 40-man roster for Rosscup and Lim and did that by designating OF Dave Sappelt and RHP Michael Bowden for assignment

Raley is 12-18 with a 4.15 ERA (103ER/223.1IP) in 41 games (38 starts) with Iowa over the last two years.
Rosscup joined the I-Cubs from double-A Tennessee on August 9 and struck out the side in his triple-A debut on August 11 against Fresno. In nine games with Iowa, he didn't allow an earned run in 7.2 innings, walked six, and struck out 17. He was 2-1 with a 2.49 ERA (12ER/43.1IP) and three saves in 37 games with the Smokies, while recording 66 strikeouts and 19 walks. The Cubs acquired Rosscup with Garza and former Iowa OF Fernando Perez from the Tampa Bay Rays on January 8, 2011 in exchange for five players.
The Cubs signed Lim to a two-year minor league contract on December 15, 2012. The South Korea native is coming off his second Tommy John surgery last year. He was shut down after nine appearances with the Yakult Swallows in Japan. He had recorded at least 28 saves in four straight years with the Swallows prior to the injury. In 11 games with Iowa, Lim had no record and a 0.79 ERA (1ER/11.1IP) with four walks and 12 strikeouts. He was on the disabled list from August 13-24 with a sore right shoulder.
