Airoso, Kirkland lead Erie hit parade

Third baseman, DH drive in nine runs in SeaWolves' win

BINGHAMTON, NY -- Kurt Airoso and Kody Kirkland combined to slam three homers and drive in nine runs as visiting Erie cruised to a 15-4 win over Binghamton on Sunday.

Airoso went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs and four runs scored. The 31-year-old hit a solo shot in the sixth and a two-run blast in the ninth. He now has six homers on the season.

Kirkland was 2-for-4 in the 16-hit attack, driving in five runs and scoring twice. In the SeaWolves' five-run eighth, the 22-year-old slugged a three-run homer, and Mike Rabelo followed with a solo shot. Kirkland also delivered a two-run single in a five-run fifth.

Brent Clevlen, Scott Tousa, Garth McKinney and Vincent Blue collected an RBI apiece for the SeaWolves (7-10), who have won five of their last six games.

Jay Caligiuri plated all of Binghamton's runs, hitting a two-run homer in the seventh and a two-run single in the ninth.

Starter Humberto Sanchez (1-1) kept the Mets (10-7) scoreless through six, ultimately allowing two runs on four hits over seven frames. The right-hander struck out eight for the third time in four starts and walked two.

Starter Miguel Perez (1-1) swallowed the loss after surrendering five runs on six hits while fanning five and walking three in four innings.

Erie travels to Bowie to face the Baysox at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, while Binghamton hosts a three-game series with Akron at 6 p.m. the same day.
