Potomac Preview: Dash at Nationals (July 31)

RHP Anthony Carter (10-4, 4.14) vs. RHP Trevor Holder (0-0, 0.00)
July 31, 2009
WOODBRIDGE, Va- Today's matchup between the Winston-Salem Dash (56-44, 18-14) and the Potomac Nationals (60-41, 23-11) is set for a first pitch of 7:05 ET at Pfitzner Stadium. Here are today's scheduled starting pitchers.

Winston-Salem

Anthony Carter (10-4, 4.14)

RHP Anthony Carter, 23, was the 26th round selection of the Chicago White Sox in the 2005 Draft out of Georgia Perimeter College in Dacatur, Georgia. Carter enters tonight's second game with the P-Nats as the only 10-game winner in the Carolina League and he's also coming in hot having won four straight starts and is 8-1 in his last 13 outings. He's a perfect 4-0 in the month of July and has not tasted defeat since June 21 when he allowed one run over 6.0 innings in a start against Wilmington. Against the P-Nats, Carter is 1-2 with a 8.78 ERA with his last appearance coming way back on June 11. The Nats really lowered the hammer on Carter in Winston-Salem on May 8th when he got tagged for nine runs on 10 hits including four Potomac homers in a 12-4 pounding of the Dash.

Potomac

Trevor Holder (0-0, 0.00)

RHP Trevor Holder was drafted in the third round of the 2009 draft with the 81st overall pick after finishing up his senior collegiate season with the University of Georgia Bulldogs. After the draft, Holder signed a contract and reported to the Short Season Vermont Lake Monsters where the righty made two starts, allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched while striking out three. He then jumped up a level and joined the Hagerstown Suns roster in mid-July. After an initial tough outing, Holder bounced back, twirling back-to-back gems, allowing just one earned run in 10 innings while striking out nine and walking just two. The Alabama product picked up wins in his last two starts for the Hagerstown ballclub. Overall with the Suns, Holder compiled a 2-0 record with a 3.55 ERA and a 12/3 K/BB ratio.
