Heroes Game & All-Star Blast Off Highlight Tuesday activities before Fanfest & All-Star Clash on Wednesday
October 21, 2013

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve are pleased to announce details surrounding the 2014 Eastern League All-Star Game, which will take place July 16, 2014 at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The two-day event returns to Altoona for the first time since the 2006 season and will be known in this iteration as the 2014 Eastern League All-Star Stop, tying in reference to the area's deeply rooted history in the Pennsylvania Railroad.

All-Star Stop events begin Tuesday at PNG Field when the Curve, Pa. Heroes Softball Game will take place as the first in a series of events surrounding the game itself the next day. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) will participate in the Heroes game on Tuesday evening. The WWAST is comprised of young, competitive, athletic veterans and active duty soldiers who have lost limbs post-9/11 while serving their country in the military/war. This group has traveled around the country playing in exhibition and celebrity softball games to raise awareness of the sacrifices and resilience of our military and highlight their ability to rise above any challenge.

"We could think of no better way to begin the Eastern League All-Star Stop than to pay tribute to some of our country's true heroes," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "The Wounded Warrior softball players are bound to inspire all in attendance with their heroism, courage, and will to overcome challenges. We'll follow that up with a unique hitting challenge for the Eastern League All-Stars that is sure to entertain and showcase their offensive talent."

The WWAST will take the field in the Heroes game against a team made up of Curve, Pa. celebrities that will be announced at a later date.

Following the Heroes game on Tuesday will be the All-Star Blast Off, which will be a hitting challenge involving the best of the best Eastern League sluggers from the 2014 All-Star teams.

Wednesday, July 16 will bring with it the All-Star Clash itself featuring the best talent from both the Eastern and Western divisions of the Eastern League and some of the brightest stars in all of Minor League Baseball. Recent Eastern League All-Star Game participants include Tigers OF Austin Jackson (2008), former Curve OF and Pirates left fielder Starling Marte (2011), Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (2011) and Phillies 1B Darin Ruf (2012).

Preceding the All-Star Game on Wednesday will be the Curve, Pa. All-Star Experience, where fans will be able to head down to the ballpark for a pregame fanfest with activities that include an autograph and photo session with the 2014 Eastern League All-Star participants as well as the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team. Fans will then be able to watch batting practice for both squads before the game gets going in the early evening.

"The Eastern League All-Star Fan Fest and Clash will be centered around providing fans with the unique experience to meet and watch players who will not only be the best in our league in 2014, but will be household names as Major League players in the near future," added Egan.

Tickets for the Eastern League All-Star Stop are available now by purchasing 2014 Curve season tickets or a 2014 mini plan. Those that purchase a full-season ticket for the 2014 season will have their tickets for both days of the All-Star Stop included free of charge.
