'Wolves Fall In Finale To Defenders
The Defenders struck first in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Jonah Nickerson. Connecticut started the inning with four consecutive singles. Brock Bond, Brad Boyer, Brett Pill and Eddy Martinez-Esteve all singled. Pill brought home Bond for the game's first run. Brandon Crawford doubled home Boyer and Pill for a 3-0 lead.
The SeaWolves got on the board in the bottom of the first as Deik Scram hit a solo home run to right with one out making it a 3-1 game. The home run for Scram was his second in as many games and his 16th on the season.
Erie made it a one-run game in the fourth. Scram led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher Jackson Williams. Casper Wells grounded home Scram making it a 3-2 game.
The score remained the same until the top of the seventh when the Defenders rattled off eight runs sending 11 hitters to the plate. Williams led off with a double and that was followed by back-to-back singles by Bond and Boyer to bring home Williams. Pill then singled home Bond to make it 4-2. Martinez-Esteve doubled home a run and Mike Mooney singled home a run for a 7-2 Defenders lead. The inning was capped off by a three-run home run by Williams making it 11-2.
Connecticut would add a run in the eighth as Pill doubled with one out and scored on a Bobby Felmy base hit making it 12-2.
The loss gives Erie's its first series loss to a Northern Division team this season.
