Goldschmidt wins Silver Slugger Award
MISSOULA, MONT. - Missoula Osprey alum and Diamondbacks' star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (2009) added another award to his already burgeoning trophy case, being named the Silver Slugger for all National League First Baseman by Major League Baseball on Wednesday.
Goldschmidt, who was named to his first All-Star Game in 2013, has already been honored this offseason with the Hank Aaron Award and a Gold Glove. The Hank Aaron Award is officially sanctioned by Major League Baseball and recognizes the most outstanding offensive performer in each league and the Gold Glove recognizes the most outstanding defensively at each respective position.
On Monday, Goldschmidt was also named one of three finalists for the NL MVP (Andrew McCutchen -Pittsburgh Pirates & Yadier Molina - St. Louis Cardinals) that will be announced on November 14.
In 2013, Goldschmidt hit .302 with 36 doubles, 36 home runs, 125 RBI, 99 walks and 103 runs scored in just his second full season with the Diamondbacks
Goldschmidt led all NL first basemen in putouts (1,494) and total chances (1,598) while ranking second with a .997 fielding percentage, trailing only the Rockies' Todd Helton (.998).
Carlos Gonzalez (2003) was the most recent Osprey awarded a Silver Slugger, which came in 2010 with the Colorado Rockies.
