A's Trade Bostick To Rangers
The Oakland Athletics have just traded another one of the star 2013 Beloit Snappers. They have traded 2B Christopher Bostick and CF Michael Choice to the Texas Rangers. Bostick was drafted in the 44th round (1336th overall) in 2011 by the Oakland Athletics out of Aquinas Institute, Rochester NY.
Bostick greatly contributed to the Beloit Snappers' first half Midwest League championship team that ended up going 77-62. The Snappers ended up losing in the Midwest League semifinals to the eventual champions, the Quad Cities River Bandits (Houston Astros affiliate). This trade comes after the A's traded then Snapper, RHP Dakota Bacus, midseason to the Washington Nationals for catcher, Kurt Suzuki. Also, just last week the A's traded 2013 Snapper John Wooten to the Washington Nationals for LHP Fernando Abad.
The A's will be getting CF Craig Gentry and RHP Josh Lindblom. Gentry batted .280 with two home runs and 22 RBI in 106 games with Texas last year. He established career-highs in runs (39), triples (4), home runs, walks (29) and stolen bases (24). Lindblom was 1-3 with a 5.46 ERA in eight games, including five starts, over three stints with Texas in 2013.
In addition to Bostick, the Rangers will be getting CF Michael Choice. Choice made his Major League debut with the A's last September and went 5-for-18 (.278) with a double and a walk in nine games.
Bostick, who was a Beloit fan favorite, spent the entire 2013 season at Single-A Beloit where he batted .282 with 14 home runs and 89 RBI in 129 games. He added 51 walks for a .354 on-base percentage and stole 25 bases. Bostick has a .282 average in 213 games over three seasons in the minors. Bostick has been assigned to Single A Myrtle Beach for next season.
The Snappers will open their 2014 season as Beloit hosts the Burlington Bees April 3, 2014 at Pohlman Field; first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm. For additional information or tickets call the Snappers Office at (608) 362-2272.
