Idaho Falls 6, Great Falls 5
The Idaho Falls Chukars defeated the Great Falls Voyagers 6-5 in walk-off fashion Saturday night. Both teams committed two errors in the game, but it was the Voyagers slip-up that gave Idaho Falls the victory.
Both teams scored a single run in the second inning. Great Falls then scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning, two off a home run by Jordan Cheatham. The Chukars tied the game when Deivy Batista hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning. The Voyagers recaptured the lead with one run in the top of the ninth inning. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Hilton Richardson led-off with a double and moved to third on a groundout by Angel Franco. After Batista was intentionally walked to bring up Julio Aparicio, a steal of second base turned into an error when the catcher tried to throw out Richardson at third base when Richardson had faked coming home. The throw from the catcher ended up in leftfield and both baserunners were able to come home.
The Chukars had only five hits, compared to 12 hits by the Voyagers. Both Richardson and Batista had two hits and Joey Lewis had the other. The Chukars stole four bases, two by Batista alone. Batista also collected all four of the team's RBIs.
The starting pitcher for the Chukars, Sugar Ray Marimon, lasted only three and two thirds innings. Marimon allowed three runs on seven hits. Brendan Lafferty pitched the rest of the game for Idaho Falls. Lafferty improved to 3-1 after allowing only one run in five and a third innings. The lefty finished with seven strikeouts, while allowing no walks.
The Chukars and Voyagers have each won one game in the three-game series, which concludes on Sunday. First pitch in the rubber match is scheduled for 4:00.
