Razor Shines to be New Lookouts Manager
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the 2014 coaching staff for the Chattanooga Lookouts. Razor Shines will be the manager of the Lookouts, while fellow newcomers Shawn Wooten and Scott Radinsky will serve as the team's hitting and pitching coach, respectively.
Shines joins the Lookouts after spending last season as the manager for the Single-A Great Lakes Loons and leading them to the Midwest League Playoffs. This upcoming season will mark his 10th season as a minor league manager and third with the Dodgers' organization.
Prior to joining the Dodgers in 2012, Shines managed eight seasons in the Minor Leagues for the White Sox and Phillies organizations, compiling a 572-546 record with stops at all four full-season levels. His teams had winning seasons in six of his eight years and advanced to the playoffs four times. In 2003, he led the Winston-Salem Warthogs to the Carolina League Championship and two years later, while piloting the Birmingham Barons, earned Southern League Manager of the Year honors.
Shines also spent three seasons as a Major League base coach, serving as the third base coach for the Chicago White Sox (2007) and as the third base (2009) and first base coach (2010) for the New York Mets. He also managed Peoria to an Arizona Fall League championship in 2003 and was a member of the All-Star Futures Game (World Team) coaching staff from 2005-06.
The former Loons' skipper began his coaching career in 1994 with the Reds' organization as the hitting coach for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, one year after retiring as a player. He played professionally for 16 seasons (1978-1993), playing primarily first base, third base and catcher and spent parts of four seasons (1983-85, 87) in the Major Leagues with the Montreal Expos. Shines finished his career playing in 1,480 games over 16 Minor League seasons, amassing a .267 average with 139 homers and 739 RBIs.
Hitting coach Shawn Wooten is beginning his first year in the Dodgers' organization after spending four years with the San Diego Padres, including two seasons as manager of the Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm, one season managing Single-A Fort Wayne Tin Caps and serving as the hitting coach with the Short-Season Eugene Emeralds in 2010. Before making his coaching debut with the Emeralds, Wooten spent six years in the majors, compiling a career .272 batting average with 18 home runs and 86 RBIs. In 2002, Wooten helped guide the Los Angeles Angels to a World Series Championship after hitting .474 in nine postseason games.
Joining Shines and Wooten on the staff is pitching coach Scott Radinsky. Last season the former major league pitcher served as the pitching coach for the Ogden Raptors. In 2012, Radinsky was the Cleveland Indians pitching coach after serving as their bullpen coach in 2010 and 2011. In his major league career the left-hander made 557 relief appearances in 11 Major League seasons with four teams (Chicago White Sox, Dodgers, St. Louis and Cleveland). Radinsky finished his career with a record of 42-25 with 52 saves and a 3.44 ERA.
The Chattanooga Lookouts begin their 2014 regular season on April 3rd against the Jackson Generals at AT&T Field. Lookouts season ticket packages are on sale now at the stadium or by calling (423) 267-4TIX.
