Collector's Corner: Cupdate #2

January 8, 2014

This is part 2 of the "modern era" of Timber Rattlers souvenir cup history.  In case you missed part one and need to catch up (or just enjoy reading a great story on molded plastic), click here.  Otherwise, let's pick up where we left off:

2009

Maker: Digital Replay/Dynamic Drinkware          Cup type: Lenticular       Size: 32 oz

It's electric, boogie woogie, woogie!  This cup looks like bolts of electricity are flying around the cup.  The Brewers affiliation brought new energy to the Fox Cities.  The Rattlers hat logo explodes at you as you turn the cup (or it gets smaller if you turn it the other way, but I prefer the excitement of it getting bigger).  This is the last of the white cups with the inch lip on the top.  So if you prefer drinking large amounts of soda out of white plastic drinkware, 2009 was a bittersweet year for you, if you could see the future and know it was the last one.

The side of the cup has the Rattlers slogan for 2009 "New Crew, More Fun", as well as the Brewers logo on it.

2010

Maker: Dynamic Drinkware        Cup type: Lenticular       Size: 32 oz

It's electric, boogie woogie, woogie!  Wait, "it's like déjà vu all over again".  Do not adjust your screen; the same template from 2009 was used again in 2010, only with an extra inch of electricity thanks to the different cup style.  As I teased in 2009, the cup is now black.

The other change in 2010 is the removal of the slogan (the Crew wasn't new anymore, but the fun was at a similar level) and the addition of Pete Fatse swinging.

2011

Maker: Dynamic Drinkware        Cup type: Full Color Photo          Size: 32 oz

2011 brought not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 (4!) different cups (collect them all!).  It was time to start focusing on the Brewers talent that was coming through town, and what better canvas than a 32 ounce beverage receptacle.  The cups were given out at different times of the year, with Cody Scarpetta, then the number two prospect in the Brewers chain, up first.  Two photos of Cody with the Rattlers and one from Brewers spring training are shown on the cup.

Wily Peralta, the third best Brewers prospect in 2011, was the second cup to debut.  As with Cody, two Timber Rattlers pictures and one Brewers picture grace the sides of the cup.

Following the All Star break came cup #3 of the year, Scooter Gennett.  A slight change to the template, as Scooter gets two action Rattlers color photos, with his Brewers head shot in the back ground.

Khris Davis gets cup #4 in honor of his setting the Timber Rattlers home run record in the 2010 season.  All three of his photos are of him with the Rattlers, including rocking the baby blue Brewers Sundays jerseys.  Cup trivia: Khris Davis is the first right handed batter to be featured on a Timber Rattlers cup.  (When that question is on Final Jeopardy, you'll thank me)

2012

Maker: Dynamic Drinkware        Cup type: Full Color Photo          Size: 22 oz

The 2012 cup is 22 ounces.  Souvenir cups should be 32 ounces, minimum.  I had to borrow this cup to take a picture, because I refuse to own this cup.  I will say no more about this cup.

2013

Maker: Dynamic Drinkware        Cup type: Full Color Photo          Size: 32 oz

The return of 32 ounces!  And the return of multiple cups in one season.  It started with the 2012 Midwest League Champions cup.  I love the team photo with the banner and the picure of the players lifting up the trophy, but my favorite part of this cup is the 10 banners lining the top of the cup commemorating the championships won by the Fox Cities/Appleton Foxes and Timber Rattlers.  I want to get those painted on to the front of the desk in the store someday.

The second cup of the year featured former Timber Rattlers who made their MLB debuts with Brewers during the 2012 season.

Tyler Thornburg, Wily Peralta, and Jim Henderson are recognized for their accomplishment.  Cup trivia: Wily Peralta is the first player to twice be immortalized on a Timber Rattlers cup.

Which brings us to 2014.  What will this year's cup look like?  Will we see the return of lenticular?  (probably not) Will it be smaller than 32oz? (better not) Will it have something to do with the Timber Rattlers 20th Anniversary? (decent chance) Will the white cup return? (doubt it)  Will there be multiple cups? (maybe) Be here on April 3rd, Opening Day 2014, to be one of the first to get the newest addition.
