Royals' Minor Leaguer suspended 50 games

Bees outfielder tested positive for a drug of abuse

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Kansas City Royals Minor League outfielder Nicholas Francis has received a 50-game suspension after a second violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for a drug of abuse.

The suspension of Francis is effective immediately. Francis is currently a member of Class A Burlington of the Midwest League.

The 23-year old Francis was hitting .276 with 16 homers and 66 RBIs with the Bees. He is the 61st player to be suspended in Minor League Baseball for violating the league's drug policy in the 2009 season.
