Top Five Tuesday: Brett Lawrie Games
For the next few weeks, Top Five Tuesday is going to take a look at the best games of Timber Rattlers players who are going to be part of the 2014 Bobblehead Series.
It's Brett Lawrie's turn this week as we look at his Top Five Games as a Rattler in 2009. Lawrie's bobblehead will be given away on Tuesday, April 29.
5.) August 12 at Cedar Rapids: Lawrie went 3-for-5 with three singles, a pair of RBI, and a run scored. His third inning drove in a run to put the Rattlers up 3-0. He scored later in that inning. He also singled in a run in the fourth inning. A single in the eighth inning helped to set up a run that made the score 9-5 in favor of Wisconsin.
4.) May 3 vs. Lansing: Lawrie went 4-for-5 with an RBI in this game. It was his only 4-hit game of the 2009 season. There was a first inning single. Then, a third inning double knocked in a run to tie the game with the Lugnuts 1-1. In the seventh, Lawrie singled to load the bases. He would also single in the ninth inning and would eventually score. This performance bumped his average from .284 to .316 for the season.
3.) May 18 vs. Clinton: Lawrie was 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI, and three runs scored. Clinton had jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Lawrie tied the game in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer. In the sixth, he singled in a run and also scored. A walk and a run scored in the eighth inning capped his night for a 14-7 win over the LumberKings.
2.) April 23 vs. Peoria (Game 2 of Doubleheader): Lawrie had a 3-for-4 game with a triple, a homer, and three RBI. After a grounder to short in the first inning, Lawrie singled in the second. He came back to the plate in the fourth inning with the Rattlers up 4-2. He tripled to knock in a run. Lawrie scored on a wild pitch later in the inning. In his next at bat - in the bottom of the sixth inning - Wisconsin was trailing 7-6. There was a runner at second with one out and the Chiefs decided to pitch to Lawrie. He crushed a 3-1 pitch for a two-run home run and the Rattlers led the game 8-7. Jim Henderson, who we will talk about later in this series, pitched a scoreless seventh to close out the Chiefs.
1.) August 14 at Cedar Rapids: This also happened to be one of Lawrie's last games with the Timber Rattlers. He was promoted to Huntsville after a game on August 17. In this game at Cedar Rapids, Lawrie went 3-for-5, homered, scored three runs, drove in four, and stole a base. He drove in a run with a single in the first inning. Then, he stole second - his 19th stolen base of the season - and scored later in the frame. He blasted a three-run home run off Ryan Chaffee with two outs in the top of the second inning. Back at the plate in the fourth with runners at second and third, he sent a grounder to second with the infield playing in on the grass. The throw home was dropped by the catcher and a run scored. Later in the inning, Lawrie scored his third run of the game. A hard line drive to third in the fifth inning was snagged for an out. In his final plate appearance of the game, Lawrie doubled in the seventh inning.
