Rock Cats President William Dowling Has Community Award in His Name

January 17, 2014

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, announced that it will begin a tradition of awarding a local community leader with the "William Dowling Community Service Award" at a Rock Cats home game each season at New Britain Stadium. The announcement was made by Rock Cats Principal Owner Josh Solomon at today's Hot Stove Luncheon at the Central Connecticut State University.

Dowling spent 13 seasons as President and CEO of the New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the most successful minor league professional sports franchise in the state of Connecticut history. "While Bill continued to break attendance figures each season, he is best known for his work in the community, serving on many boards and ensuring the Rock Cats name was proudly displayed 12 months a year," Josh Solomon said. "It was important for Bill to have the Rock Cats popular mascot Rocky at schools, businesses and little league openings and spread the good word of Rock Cats Baseball." Dowling also worked closely with the Minnesota Twins setting up a player appearance program, thus introducing many future major league stars to the great fans in this community.

"I am thrilled and delighted to receive this award and want to thank the Solomon's for making it an annual award each year," Rock Cats President Bill Dowling said. "One thing I wanted to do in New Britain is to work close with the community and become an integral part of the community, a cheer leader for the city and work with them in any way I can. It is a nice way to be remembered once I am no longer with the Rock Cats."

The William Dowling Community Service Award will be given to a local individual who demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support, and leadership within the Greater Hartford community. Going forward, this award will be presented annually during a New Britain Rock Cats home game to encourage, recognize, and reward individuals who put their community first.
