Corey Hart, Nashville Rally from Behind for 4-3 Win

May 3, 2006
Corey Hart and the Nashville Sounds came back from a 3-2 deficit to defeat Jerome Williams and the Iowa Cubs, 4-3, in front of 5,644 fans on Wednesday afternoon in Nashville. With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Hart deposited an 0-1 pitch in the left field seats for a solo walk-off homer. The ninth inning blast was Hart's fourth of the year.

Iowa grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning thanks to a pair of back-to-back doubles from Augie Ojeda and Buck Coats and a wild pitch from Zach Jackson. The Cubs would add another run in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-1, but Nashville would chip away with a run in the bottom of the fifth and another in the seventh, tying the game at three before Hart's blast in the ninth.

The Cubs were out-hit by the Sounds 11-9, and the loss drops the Cubs' record to 0-12 when out-hit by an opponent. Nashville extended their lead to eight games over the Cubs in the PCL American Northern division and are currently tied with Albuquerque for the league's best record heading into Wednesday night's games.

Buck Coats extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a 2-4 performance, including a double, RBI and a run scored. Along with Coats, Augie Ojeda and Brandon Sing each had a pair of hits to lead the Iowa offense. Cubs' releiver Brandon Emanuel was tagged with the loss, dropping his record to 0-2. Iowa Starter Jerome Williams was in line for the win, allowing two runs in five innings, but did not record a decision in the loss.

Heading into Thursday's finale with the Sounds, the Cubs have dropped 12 of their last 14 games. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7:00 CT.
