Lowell mascots to tie the knot
On Saturday, May 6th at 2 p.m., wedding bells will ring at LeLacheur Park, home of the Lowell Spinners, Single-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Mayor of Lowell, Bill Martin, is scheduled to perform the wedding ceremony, and it's going to be a wedding full of celebrities. Along with local celebrities Louie the Lock Monster and Lola Bear, the guest list also includes Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Elmo and celebrity power couple Minnie & Mickey Mouse.
Friends and relatives of the couple, which are naturally live alligators and crocodiles, will be on hand.
A gigantic cake measuring four feet by eight feet is being prepared by Greater Lowell Technical High School.
Guests will receive Gator-ade for a special toast at a reception after the ceremony where guests will be invited to enjoy wedding music with a Gator twist.
An enormous fan response has already forced the event to be moved from LeLacheur Park's Gator Pit picnic area onto the field.
"We knew our gators were popular, but we never imagined we'd have a guest list over 700-people strong," said Lowell Spinners General Manager Tim Bawmann, "Allie-Gator and Canaligator are lucky to have so many friends and fans in the community."
The wedding event is open to the public, but the Spinners ask that anyone wishing to attend please RSVP by contacting Jon Shestakofsky at 978-805-5117 or [email protected] to be added to the guest list to ensure there is enough Gator-ade and cake on hand for the fans.
Please note that there are no physical tickets to the wedding. Once on the guest list, fans can come right to the ballpark on the afternoon of May 6th. Also note that dress is casual and gifts are not necessary, but that donations to the Lowell Spinners charities will be accepted.
