Coaching Staff Set for 2014

Tim Parenton takes over the Helm for His Inaugural Season with the Rays Organization

FISHKILL, NY- The Hudson Valley Renegades, Short-Season Class-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays are pleased to announce and welcome Tim Parenton to the Hudson Valley for the 2014 season. Joining Parenton will be returning pitching coach; Jorge Moncada, coach; Manny Castillo, and trainer Brian Newman

Parenton joins the Hudson Valley Renegades for his inaugural season in Minor League Baseball and first within the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Parenton, a veteran coach of over 20 years, will arrive to the Hudson Valley after spending the last four seasons with the University of North Florida (2010-13).   Parenton began his college-coaching career with the Monarchs of Old Dominion University where he spent five seasons (1990-95) before joining the coaching staff of Mississippi State (1996-97). In 1998, Parenton received his first head coaching position with Samford University. During his seven-year tenure (1998-04), Parenton oversaw a $1,000,000 ballpark renovation project, increased instructional camp attendance, and increased the team's graduation rate to over 90 percent with 51 academic all-conference recipients. Parenton went on to join the University of Florida coaching staff (2004-07) following a three-year break from the college-level to return to his alma mater of Jesuit High School (2007-10). A native of New Orleans, Parenton attended Mississippi State earning three varsity letters as a third baseman and shortstop. Parenton also earned four varsity letters as a quarterback on the Bulldog football teams that participated in the Sun Bowl (1980) and the Hall of Fame Bowl (1981) in Birmingham, Ala.

Pitching coach Jorge Moncada will return to the Hudson Valley after spending part of the 2013 season as the club's pitching coach. Before joining the Renegades last season, Moncada served seven years in the Venezuelan Summer League (VSL) as the VSL Rays pitching coach (2006-2013), logged two years as the pitching coach in the Venezuelan Parallel League (2005-2006), and served as the VSL Astros bullpen coach for the 2005 season. The Astros signed Moncada, a former left-handed pitcher, in 2001 where he pitched four seasons within the Astros system, and five seasons within the Parallel League.

Manny Castillo will also make a return to the Hudson Valley after spending the last four seasons with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays). Castillo was a member of the Renegades coaching staff in 2009 after spending the 2008 season as manager of the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Rays. Before beginning his coaching profession, Castillo had an 18-year playing career as a switch-hitting infielder, including stints with the Mets (1973-75), Cardinals (1976-79), Royals (1980-81), Mariners (1982-83) and the Blue Jays (1984) organizations. This year will mark Castillo's sixteenth season within the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

Brian Newman return's to the Renegades as team trainer after spending last season with the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Rays. Newman will begin his fifth season in professional baseball after serving as the clinical coordinator of sports medicine at New Mexico State University (2010-11), athletic trainer at the University of Alabama (2006-10), and a graduate assistant at Emory University (2004-06). Newman spent time within the Milwaukee Brewers (2004) and San Diego Padres (2002) system as the teams conditioning coach.
