Wind Creek, Biscuits donate to local non-profit
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Montgomery Biscuits, in partnership with Wind Creek Hospitality, parent company of Wind Creek Wetumpka Casino & Hotel, are pleased to award EAT South with a $10,000 donation to benefit their growing educational programs provided to students throughout the River Region.
Wind Creek Hospitality is donating $5,000 to EAT South, while the Biscuits are donating another $5,000 on behalf of Wind Creek Hospitality for each homerun hit by a Biscuits player during the 2013 season.
"We were thrilled to continue our relationship with Wind Creek Hospitality, and we couldn't be prouder to call them a partner" Biscuits Owner Sherrie Myers said. "We're pleased to make such a generous donation on their behalf to a such a deserving organization in the River Region."
EAT South aims to encourage healthy lifestyles through education and sustainable food production in urban areas throughout the Southeast. They provide resources to fresh, sustainable, affordable foods and continuing education on how to prepare food. Their education programs reach thousands of River Region students through "Good Food Day!" fieldtrips to EAT South's Downtown and Hampstead Farm.
"We are doing incredible work at EAT South, but we can't do this work alone," said Edwin Marty, executive director for EAT South. "We need community partners like Wind Creek Wetumpka and the Montgomery Biscuits to help us expand our capacity to help make a difference for every kid in Alabama.
"After meeting Edwin, reviewing his 'Good Food Day' project, we were committed," said Lynn Woodcock, public relations manager for Wind Creek Hospitality. "With this $10,000 he will be able to start his project and know that we will continue to work very hard on getting EAT South additional support to make their educational programs a success."
In an effort to support local initiatives in the River Region, Wind Creek Hospitality has donated over 1.5 million dollars to various local organizations, non-profits and schools within their five county service area, which includes Escambia County, Ala., Montgomery County, Ala., Elmore County, Ala., Baldwin County, Ala., and Escambia County, Fla.
