Greensboro Domination of Hickory Continues in 6-2 Win

May 5, 2006
The Greensboro Grasshoppers picked up their eighth win in ten tries against the Hickory Crawdads in a 6-2 victory Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. More than 3,000 fans watched through a significant rain storm during the game. The Crawdads couldn't hold an early 2-0 lead and dropped their fifth game in the last eight tries.

Hickory reached for two runs in the fourth inning against Grasshopper starter Ryan Tucker. Crawdad DH Tony Mansolino singled in RF Brad Corley and LF Jason Delaney with two outs to give Hickory the early lead.

Greensboro responded with three in the top of the fifth against Hickory starter Romulo Sanchez. Grasshopper DH Matt Kutler singled in catcher Andrew Jenkins with one out. Greensboro SS Aguustin Septimo followed with a run scoring single that plated 3B Jonathon Fulton to tie the game. Greensboro 2B James Guerrero's RBI groundout scored Kutler to give the Grasshoppers a 3-2 lead.

The 'Hoppers added to the lead tallying three times against Hickory reliever Derek Antelo in the eighth inning. Greensboro 1B Gabby Sanchez drove in two with a double and Jenkins singled in the final run to make it 6-2.

Rafael Galbizo (2-1) earned the win out of the bullpen because Tucker failed to complete five innings for Greensboro. Tucker allowed two runs on three hits in four innings. Galbizo threw two and one-third frames of shutout ball allowing one hit and striking out three.

Sanchez (0-2) gave up three runs on four hits in five innings to take the loss. Antelo allowed three runs in three innings. Jean Garavito pitched a scoreless ninth for Hickory.

The two teams play in Greensboro Saturday night at 7pm and Sunday at 5pm. Saturday Hickory throws right hander Luis Valdez opposite Grasshopper righty Todd Doolittle.
