PIRATES ANNOUNCE SPRING TRAINING PROMOTIONAL SCHEDULE
Bradenton, Fla. - The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the promotional schedule for 2014 Spring Training Games. The Pirates play 16 games at McKechnie Field this spring, starting with the Black and Gold Game, an intrasquad contest on Tuesday, February 25.
Before games begin, the Pirates will hold the annual Pirates Pep Rally in downtown Bradenton. The rally on Old Main Street runs from 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and features autograph signing, kids games, a photo booth, inflatable games, and other fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
The Black and Gold Game starts at noon on February 25. All tickets cost $8 and proceeds benefit the Manatee Education Foundation, Wakeland Elementary School, and G.D. Rogers Garden Elementary School. The length of the Black and Gold Game varies and often does not last a full regulation nine innings.
Pirates Spring Training games will feature several giveaways at the gate in 2014. All giveaway items are distributed on a first come first served basis and available only while supplies last. On Wednesday, February 26, Pepsi presents a baseball pen giveaway for the first of two Pepsi Days. Monday, March 3 is Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Day featuring a Pirates lens cleaner giveaway. Manatee Memorial Hospital and Humana are giving away eco-friendly bags at the game on Friday, March 7, during the third annual Senior and Caregiver Expo. Sunday, March 9, is DOS Imaging Day, featuring a jersey rally towel giveaway. Monday, March 17 is SRQ Airport Day, with a Pirates luggage tag giveaway. The second Pepsi Day is Monday, March 24. Pepsi will provide a mini-fan giveaway.
A pair of Grapefruit League games will feature a donation back to local charities for a portion of ticket proceeds. Saturday, March 1 is United Way Day. For each ticket purchased to the March 1 game, the Pirates will donate $2 to the United Way of Manatee County. The Thursday, March 20 night game is Boys & Girls Club Night. The Pirates will donate $3 per ticket purchased to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County. Both games will feature a Baseball America magazine giveaway.
The Pirates have partnered with Legacy of Valor to hold a Salute to Veterans on Tuesday, March 25. Legacy of Valor will present a Pirates camouflage hat giveaway at the gates. There will be a post-game concert featuring rising country music star Craig Campbell. More details about the concert and plans to honor our nation's veterans at the March 25 game will be announced at a later date.
Kids will have the opportunity to run the bases after each of the four weekend home games at McKechnie Field. The Kids Fun Run presented by Mosaic is for all children 12 and under and will be held immediately following the games on March 1, March 9, March 15, and March 22.
