Hoover comes through for lucky fan

May 6, 2006
Paul Hoover's grand slam won a car for a very lucky fan and helped Albuquerque beat visiting Oklahoma, 7-5, on Friday.

Hoover's third homer of the year not only capped a five-run third inning for the Isotopes (20-9), but also earned Albuquerque native Larry Trujillo a free automobile for the second straight year.

Trujillo, who won a Nissan Xterra last season as part of the team's Grand Slam Inning promotion, took home a Ford Escape this time around.

James Shanks went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored and Mike Kinkade added two RBIs for the Isotopes. However, Kinkade went 0-for-5 to snap his 10-game hitting streak.

Nic Ungs (4-1) pitched six solid innings to pick up the win. He allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits while walking two and striking out two.

Brad Clontz tossed a perfect ninth to earn his sixth save, sending the last-place RedHawks (9-19) to their seventh straight defeat.

Edinson Volquez (2-2) took the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits and six walks in 3 1/3 innings.
