Miller, Nuts down Mavericks

Matthew Miller belted two homers and knocked in six runs to power visiting Modesto past High Desert, 7-5, on Saturday.

Miller, who went deep in the fifth and eighth innings, has six home runs on the season. Corey Wimberly went 3-for-5 with three runs scored for the Nuts (16-13), while Jonathan Herrera had three singles and scored once.

Modesto's Humberto Cardenas (2-3) gave up two runs on six hits while striking out four in seven innings. Ryan Fox threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings to notch his first save.

Mike Stodolka finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to pace the Mavericks (16-13). Michael Galloway delivered a two-run triple and Adam Donachie singled twice.

Patrick Hicklen (0-5) continued to struggle for High Desert, surrendering five runs on six hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. The 6-foot-4 right-hander has given up 29 runs over 30 innings in six starts.

Mavericks' reliever C.J. Woodrow yielded two runs on four hits in two innings. --Christopher Heine/MLB.com
