Top Five Most Wanted Memorabilia

February 25, 2014

This past offseason, we received a terrific donation from Thomas Donnermeyer and his grandfather Duane Kersten. They were cleaning out Duane's basement and found some old Foxes programs and team photos. Thomas stopped by with a folder and said, "Here."

There were some great programs in that folder. For example, there was a scorecard for the 1968 exhibition - that was rained out - between the Appleton Foxes and the Chicago White Sox at Goodland Field. There was also a 1969 program that had a new cover on it for the rescheduled Foxes-White Sox exhibition at Goodland Field for 1969 and some team photos that we were missing.

The Timber Rattlers are still looking for Appleton Professional baseball memorabilia and - since one item in the stack, the program from the 1967 Foxes, which is from the first year of the affiliation between the Foxes and the White Sox, we received in this donation allowed me to cross something off a list I have been keeping - I decided to put together a new list of the Top Five Most Wanted Appleton Professional Baseball Memorabilia.

5.) A 1976 Foxes Program - The Bicentennial Year program cover looks like this. It was the last program cover of the Foxes that didn't include the AF logo. That logo received a soft launch during the 1976 season and is still what a lot of people think about when they think about Foxes baseball.

4.) The 1958 Foxes Program - Professional Baseball returned to the Fox Cities with the Foxes in 1958. We have a 1959 program. But, a program from the inaugural season of the Foxes would be something that would help fill in our collection.

3.) The 1960 and 1961 Programs - The 1960 season was the first year of the affiliation between the Foxes and the Baltimore Orioles. Those two seasons were also the two years Earl Weaver was the manager of the Foxes. Fox Cities won the Three-I League Pennant in 1960 and I really want to see how they celebrated and if there are any pictures in the 1961 program.

2.) A decent photograph of Goose Gossage in a Foxes uniform - This is my Holy Grail. This is the best photo of Richard "Goose" Gossage in a Foxes uniform that we have. This makes me sad and angry…sangry, if you will. There has GOT to be a better picture of this Hall of Famer as a member of the Foxes than this. There has to be!

1.) Anything from the Papermakers - No, seriously, An-ee-thing: Photos, programs, newspaper clippings. In the words of an underrated Moody Blues song, I know you're out there somewhere. And somehow you'll return again to us.

If you have any of these items, feel free to drop me a line or tweet at me. I will be very grateful.
