Steelers' Cam Heyward to Sack PNG Field April 4
CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve are pleased to announce that Cam Heyward, defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will visit Peoples Natural Gas Field on Friday, April 4 for the Curve's 6:30 p.m. game against the Erie SeaWolves, courtesy of Holiday Inn Express and WTAJ-TV.
Along with throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, Heyward will host a two-hour autograph session for fans that will take place during the game. The 2011 1st round pick by the Steelers follows in the footsteps of former Steelers who have trekked to Curve, Pa. like Maurkice Pouncey (2013), Antonio Brown (2012), Lawrence Timmons (2011), Ziggy Hood (2010) and LaMarr Woodley (2009).
"Cam Heyward has emerged as a key part of the Steelers' present and future," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "We think our fans will enjoy his visit as part of our Black and Gold tradition on Opening Weekend in Curve, Pa."
Heyward, who is the son of former NFL and Pitt running back Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, will embark on his fourth season with the Steelers in 2014-2015. The former Ohio State Buckeye has tallied 7.5 sacks so far in his young career and blocked a kick in his rookie season against the Cincinnati Bengals. The 24-year-old recorded his first professional NFL start on September 22, 2013 vs. the Bears and then grabbed his first sack of the 2013 campaign when he sacked Tom Brady on November 3 at New England.
In college at Ohio State, Heyward started 46 of his 52 games and missed only one start in his final 46 appearance in a Buckeye uniform. In Columbus, Heyward finished his career with 163 tackles (78 solo tackles), 15.0 sacks and 37.5 stops for losses. As a member of the Buckeyes, Heyward played in a bowl game in each of his four seasons on campus. Ohio State lost the national championship in 2008, lost in the Fiesta Bowl in 2009, won the Rose Bowl in 2010 and won the Sugar Bowl in 2011.
The black and gold defensive end is just one of many celebrities that will be making the stop in Curve, Pa. in 2014 as the stars are coming out in full force. On Thursday, June 12, Danielle Colby from American Pickers will be at the ballpark. "Gus Fring" (Giancarlo Esposito) from the hit-show Breaking Bad will be at the stadium on June 26 thanks to Atlantic Broadband. The Curve game on July 31 features "Piney" (William Lucking) from Sons of Anarchy thanks to Miller Lite and City Beverage. Holly Hatcher-Frazier from Dance Moms will be here on August 14 thanks to Cianna's Dance Boutique while Craig Adams of the Pittsburgh Penguins will make an appearance on August 25 thanks to WTAJ-TV.
