Blue Rocks Announce Delaware's First Chickie's & Pete's To Open At Frawley Stadium

Popular Delaware Valley Chain Serving Their World Famous Crabfries To Blue Rocks Fans In 2014
March 21, 2014

Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks are thrilled to announce that the first Chickie's & Pete's in the state of Delaware will be coming to Frawley Stadium for the 2014 season. Chickie's & Pete's will replace the Blue Moose Grille on the first-base side of the stadium.

"Chickie's & Pete's is an enormous hit in the Philadelphia area," said Blue Rocks assistant general manager Andrew Layman. "Anyone who is familiar with their product knows how popular it is and how many people you'll see at their restaurants on a given night. The demand for their food is off the charts."

Chickie's & Pete's has become an institution in the Delaware Valley. In 2011, ESPN named it the best sports bar in North America.

Frawley Stadium's Chickie's & Pete's stand will be run by the Blue Rocks' food and beverage partner, Centerplate, and will feature many of the delicious offerings found at their other locations. That includes their world famous Crabfries, Philly cheesesteaks and Chickie's chicken cutlets.

"We're always looking for new ways to make the experience better at Frawley Stadium, and for great local products to be a part of the Blue Rocks experience," said Josh Attix, Centerplate's general manager with the Blue Rocks. "We're very excited to be the first establishment in Delaware to offer Chickie's & Pete's world famous Crabfries-and, more importantly, for Blue Rocks fans to enjoy them at the park."

All of the items formerly available at the Blue Moose Grille will still be offered at Frawley Stadium this season. Fans will be able to find them at the Grill Cart located on the third-base concourse.

The legend of Chickie's & Pete's began in 1977, when a crab-loving Pete Ciarrocchi began trying out different seasonings on his fries. Following two years of soliciting customer input, Pete and his patrons decided in 1979 that the perfect recipe had been created. Today, those fries are known as Chickie's & Pete's world famous Crabfries. Crabfries have been enjoyed by virtually everyone in the area, from former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid to rock star Jon Bon Jovi. Chickie's & Pete's also has a long history of serving baseball fans. In 1998, they opened a concession stand at Veterans Stadium, then the home of the Philadelphia Phillies, and have been serving fans at Phillies games ever since.

"We are very excited to bring some of Chickie's & Pete's signature food to Frawley Stadium, especially our world famous Crabfries," said Chickie's & Pete's vice president of operations Joe Carpinella. "Everyone from the Blue Rocks and Centerplate have been great to work with and we appreciate the opportunity to work with such great organizations. We look forward to helping enhance the guest experience at Frawley Stadium by offering some of our truly unique menu items."

"As an organization, we are extremely excited to be partnering with Chickie's & Pete's and we look forward to a long relationship with them," Layman said. "We think their addition to Frawley Stadium will help add to the gameday experience for our fans. After all, who doesn't love Crabfries at a game?"

The Blue Rocks begin their 2014 campaign on the road at Winston-Salem on Thursday, April 3. The 22nd season of Blue Rocks baseball at Frawley Stadium begins with the home opener on Tuesday, April 8. Individual tickets for the upcoming season and the California-Carolina League All-Star Game and Hitting Challenge, presented by Bank of America, are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 302-888-BLUE, by going to BlueRocks.com, or by visiting the Blue Rocks Ticket office.
