PEORIA, ARIZ. (March 24, 2014) - The Seattle Mariners and Director of Player Development Chris Gwynn has announced that Mike Kinkade will be the Generals' hitting coach for the 2014 season.

Kinkade replaces Roy Howell, who was named the manager for Triple-A Tacoma. Kinkade, 40, resides in Pullman, Wash and begins his fourth season in the Mariners Organization. He spent the 2013 season as coach for the Low-A Clinton LumberKings of the Midwest League. He also managed the AZL Mariners in 2012 after rejoining the Mariner organization in 2011 as coach for Everett following his playing days with Tacoma in 2008.

Kinkade spent parts of six seasons in the Major Leagues from 1998 through 2008 as a utility player, including stints with the Mets (1998-1999), Orioles (2001), and Dodgers (2002-2003). He also played for Hanshin in the Japan Central League in 2004. Previous to his professional career, he was a standout player at Washington State University. He was a third-team All-American in 1994, and became the school's leader in career hits with 304, a mark he still holds. Following his senior season, was drafted in the ninth round by Milwaukee in the 1995 June Draft.

Kinkade joins Manager Jim Horner and Pitching Coach Lance Painter on the 2014 coaching staff.

The Generals open the 2014 season on Thursday, April 3rd at Chattanooga. The home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9th
