Break Camp Roster Released

Shorebirds break camp with Orioles' top three picks from 2013 draft
March 28, 2014

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds, in conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, have announced their "break camp" roster. The roster is subject to change before the Shorebirds' first regular season game against the Asheville Tourists on April 3rd.

The break camp roster features the Orioles' first three selections in the 2013 MLB Draft, including 1st round pick Hunter Harvey. Joining Harvey on the pitching staff will be Sebastian Vader, Steven Brault, Mitch Horacek and Austin Urban. Those five pitchers made up a very successful rotation for the Aberdeen IronBirds last season. A few Shorebirds pitchers from last year's squad are on the break camp roster. Luc Rennie, Williams Louico, Bennett Parry, David Richardson, and Dennis Torres return to Delmarva in 2014. The other pitchers breaking with the Shorebirds will be Jon Keller, Dylan Rheault and James Yacabonis.

The position players on the break camp roster are highlighted by three returning players, two top draft picks, and several standouts from Aberdeen's 2013 team. Chance Sisco, the Orioles' 2nd round draft pick in 2013, breaks with Delmarva along with Austin Wynns as the team's catchers.

Another highly regarded 2013 draft pick on the break camp roster is outfielder Josh Hart, who the Orioles selected with the 37th overall pick in between the first and second rounds. In the outfield, Lucas Herbst and Gregory Lorenzo return to Delmarva, while Conor Bierfeldt and Mike Yastrzemski jump up from Aberdeen. Bierfeldt set the IronBirds' franchise record for home runs with 12, the second-most in the New York-Penn League in 2013. Meanwhile, Yastrzemski is the grandson of former Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Yastrzemski.

Around the infield, the break camp roster features another returner Anthony Caronia. Drew Dosch will start his professional career after being drafted in the seventh round last year. Rounding out the infield will be Hector Veloz, Federico Castagnini, Jeff Kemp and Trey Mancini, all moving up from Aberdeen in 2013. Mancini batted .328 in 68 games for the IronBirds, the second-best average in the league.

The Shorebirds will play an exhibition game vs. Salisbury University on Tuesday, April 1st. Opening Day is Thursday, April 3rd in Asheville, North Carolina against the Tourists. Delmarva will open their home schedule on Thursday, April 10th vs. the Greensboro Grasshoppers. For tickets, please visit www.theshorebirds.com or call the box office at 410-219-3112.
