JetHawks take on UAV in annual exhibition
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks will tune up for the 2014 season with an exhibition game against the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers on Tuesday, April 1 at The Hangar. The annual exhibition game between the two teams will be a seven-inning game and is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
The exhibition game will be the first chance for fans to see returning manager Rodney Linares and the 2014 roster before the team takes the field for Opening Night on Thursday, April 3 against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
In last year's matchup, the JetHawks beat the Pioneers 7-3 and Andrew Aplin, Matt Duffy and Preston Tucker all showed off the skills that would eventually earn them spots on the Cal League All-Star team. Aplin blasted a home run, Duffy tripled in two runs and Tucker walked twice and scored a run. Lancaster beat UAV, 5-2, in 2012's inaugural game.
The Pioneers, who also play their home games at The Hangar, are a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). They entered today's action with a 19-14 record this season.
"Words can't express how much I appreciate the opportunity for my players to be able to step on this field and play against the JetHawks," said UAV Head Coach Brian Moses. "In the two years we've played against them [our team] has learned a lot so we're looking forward to getting back out there and learning even more from such a quality organization."
Tickets to the exhibition game are $5 and can be purchased in advance at the JetHawks box office located at The Hangar or by calling (661) 726-5400. All seating for the game will be general admission. Gates will open one hour before first pitch.
