Knights to Broadcast 10 Games in Spanish This Season
(Uptown Charlotte, NC) - With Opening Day excitement mounting, the Charlotte Knights are giving Spanish-speaking listeners a new way to listen to Knights games this season. Starting with the 2:05 p.m. game on Sunday, April 13, and continuing with all 10 Sunday games at BB&T Ballpark this season, WNOW 1030 AM will broadcast these games exclusively in Spanish.
"This is a great way for the Knights to reach Charlotte's Latino community," said Knights GM of Baseball Operations Scotty Brown. "We're excited to add WNOW to our radio broadcasting lineup and we look forward to Sunday games throughout the season. We feel this is going to be a great partnership."
The Knights are one of just a handful of Minor League teams that will feature an entire broadcast in Spanish this season. Rafael Bastidas, General Manager of El Rincón de las Ligas Menores, will handle play-by-play for all 10 Sunday games in Spanish and will be joined in the booth by Jhony Lopez, Tony Ramos, and Ernesto Hurtado.
"This is a very exciting occasion since it opens a window of entertainment for the growing Hispanic community in the Carolinas," said Bastidas. "Our organization is committed to strengthening the Latino community's participation by providing spaces for the entertainment of the whole family."
The Sunday broadcasts will be in addition to Knights regular season radio coverage on their flagship station ESPN 730 AM with the "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and Mike Pacheco. All 144 games of the team's inaugural season at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 730 AM, espn730.com, and charlotteknights.com.
Back in January, the Knights and WRHI Radio continued their partnership naming WRHI 1340 AM and 94.3 FM radio affiliates for the Knights throughout the upcoming season at BB&T Ballpark. WRHI will broadcast all Charlotte Knights games except mid-week day games.
Also, the Knights are partnering with News Talk 1110 WBT for 12 select games this season. That partnership starts on Opening Day, April 11, and will continue for all 10 Saturday home games, as well as the annual WBT Skyshow game on July 4th. WBT Radio will broadcast Charlotte Knights baseball games live on 1110 AM and 99.3 FM from BB&T Ballpark. WBT Sports Director Jim Szoke will have the call for all 12 games, including all "Saturday Knight Baseball" games.
Season tickets, as well as group tickets, 18-game partial season ticket plans and single-game tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by phone at 704-357-8071, online at charlotteknights.com, or in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office. Uptown Knights are Better Than Ever!
