Sinnery Solid as Rawhide Sweep Modesto
VISALIA--Brandon Sinnery allowed just one run over 7 innings, Socrates Brito and Brandon Allen crushed home runs, and the Rawhide beat Modesto 5-2 on Wednesday to complete a series sweep and a successful opening homestand.
Sinnery mixed and matched throughout the game, keeping Modesto off-balance. The Rawhide scored in the first inning, as Kevin Medrano singled, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, and came home on a Brandon Drury RBI grounder; it was Drury's 8th RBI in his last 4 games.
Modesto tied it in the fourth as Will Swanner singled, went to third on another hit, and scored on a sacrifice fly. But Sinnery held the fort until the bottom of the 6th, when Brandon Allen led off with a double, and two outs later, Allen Glenn tripled him home. That chased Modesto starter Ryan Gibbard (0-2), and brought in Jacob Newberry, who grooved his first pitch to Socrates Brito. Brito didn't miss, as he clobbered a mammoth homer to right field to give Visalia a 3-run cushion.
The final scoring came in the 8th; Modesto cut the deficit to 4-2 on a sacrifice fly, but Brandon Allen immediately restored the 3-run lead, as he destroyed a no-doubt-about-it shot to right-center field in the bottom half to make it 5-2.
Jimmie Sherfy notched his 2nd save with a scoreless 9th, and the Rawhide claimed their 4th win in a row...and consigned Modesto to an 0-7 start.
