Bobby Grich bobblehead giveaway Sept. 1
To help wrap up the 2015 season, ESL Federal Credit Union will be providing a Bobby Grich bobblehead to the first 2000 fans at the Red Wings game against the Scranton/Wikes-Barre RailRiders here on Tuesday, Sept 1 at 7:05 p.m. (gates open at 6 p.m.). To make the night even more special, the Red Wings Hall of Famer will be here in person to sign autographs and meet fans.
Bobby Grich played most of the 1970 and '71 seasons in Rochester for the Red Wings. He batted .352/.461/.612 with 37 doubles, 12 triples, 25 home runs, 125 RBI and 191 runs in 193 games with Rochester. Grich was named the International League's Most Valuable Player in 1971 while helping the Wings win the team's sixth Governors Cup that season. He was part of the inaugural class of the Red Wings Hall of Fame when it was established in 1989, and he was also inducted into the IL Hall of Fame in 2010.
"Rochester is my home-away-from home and my last stop in my minor league career before jumping to the majors for good in 1972. I have such great memories of my two years there that I relish the opportunity to return to say hello to the soulfully loyal fans, Joe Altobelli, and once again reunite with the city and team that is the heart of minor league baseball." - Bobby Grich
A six-time Major League All-Star, Grich also won four straight Gold Gloves at second base with the Baltimore Orioles from 1973-76. He led the American League with 22 home runs for the California Angels in 1981, becoming the first second baseman since Nap Lajoie in 1901 to lead the American League in home runs and the first second baseman to lead either league in homers since Rogers Hornsby in 1929.
Grich played over 2,000 games across 17 Major League seasons with the Orioles and Angels.
Grich will sign autographs from 6-6:45 p.m. and from 7:10-8 p.m. on Sept. 1
