RHP Jhoulys Chacin to Make MLB Rehab Start
Colorado Rockies righty Jhoulys Chacin will make the first of two rehab starts with the Modesto Nuts on Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Visalia Rawhide.
Chacin had a career year in 2013 that began with the Venezuelan native becoming the third youngest Rockies pitcher to open the season as the team's Opening Day starter at age 25. Overall, he went 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA with 19 quality starts in a career-high-tying 31 games. The righty struck out a team-high 126 and set a new career mark by throwing 197.1 innings.
Chacin will be working back from a shoulder injury that kept him out of spring training and put him on the 15-day disabled list to start the season. If he does not feel any pain after Tuesday night's start, Chacin will make a second start on Friday, April 19th against the Lake Elsinore Storm (A-Advanced; San Diego Padres) with the hopes of joining the Rockies rotation on April 28th or May 3rd.
This will be his third stop with the Modesto Nuts and second rehab stint in the California League. Chacin spent the second half of the 2008 season in Modesto and posted a 2.31 ERA in 12 starts spanning 66 innings. He would reach the big leagues and throw eleven frames for the Rockies the next season. In 2012, Chacin made one rehab start with the Modesto Nuts while working back from shoulder inflammation. He tossed 2.1 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits.
