Orioles prospect Ouellette arrested for DUI

Eastern League All-Star crashed pickup truck, failed sobriety test
September 29, 2009
Baltimore Orioles prospect Ryan Ouellette was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence on Sunday night after crashing his pickup truck and failing a sobriety test in Jensen Beach, Fla., according to several local news outlets.

Ouellette's blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit -- between 0.223 and 0.231 -- according to the Vero Beach Press-Journal. Florida's legal blood-alcohol driving limit is 0.08.

The 23-year-old told police he had dropped off some friends before his 2002 Ford truck's tire blew out on Northeast Skyline Drive around 6 p.m., causing him to veer into a guardrail. The Minor Leaguer was not injured.

A Martin County Sheriff's deputy said Ouellette's eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred, prompting a field sobriety test.

Ouellette was arrested and taken to Martin County Jail under a $750 bond, according to WBAL-TV in Baltimore.

The Stuart, Fla. native, Baltimore's 13th-round pick in the 2006 Draft, split his fourth Minor League season between Class A Advanced Frederick and Double-A Bowie in 2009. The 5-foot-11 right-hander went 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 11 outings for the Keys before finishing the season with the Baysox, where he went 4-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 37 relief appearances as an Eastern League All-Star.
