LaMarre's grand slam leads Bats to 7-3 victory

April 16, 2014

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville, on the back of a Ryan LaMarre grand slam, was victorious 7-3 Wednesday evening against Indianapolis at Louisville Slugger Field.

Sean Marshall made his second consecutive rehab start for Louisville, throwing one inning and allowing one run, a home run. In two rehab starts for the Bats, Marshall has thrown two innings, allowing the one run and striking out two.

Right-hander Tim Crabbe (1-1, 2.30) would eventually enter the game in the third inning and earn the win. He pitched four and one-third innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out one. Crabbe had good control throwing 79 total pitches, 49 for a strike.

Indians left-hander Jeff Locke (0-1, 9.00) got the ball for the first time in 2014, going five complete innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out four. Locke was solid through three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth when he allowed four runs on three hits.

LaMarre connected on his second hit of the season off Locke, this one being a grand slam into the seats in left field and giving the Bats a 5-1 lead. He would end up leaving the game in the seventh inning after landing awkwardly at first base while legging out an infield single.

Jason Bourgeois extended his hitting streak to eight games with a solo home run to lead off the home half of the first and tie the score at one. His eight-game hitting streak is now longest on the club as Felix Perez came in late in the game and couldn't collect a base hit.

Pittsburgh Pirates' top prospect and 13th best prospect in Major League Baseball, Gregory Polanco, was 0-for-4, ending his 10-game hitting streak. Polanco did collect a RBI on a groundout that scored shortstop Michael Martinez from third base in the fifth inning.

Left-hander Ryan Dennick earned his first save of the season in two and two-third innings of relief on Wednesday. He has now pitched seven innings and has yet to yield a run.

Louisville (7-5) has now won two in a row and will look to extend their winning streak tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field against the Indianapolis Indians (9-3). It will be two right-handers facing off as Chien-Ming Wang (1-1, 5.40) will get the ball for Louisville, while Casey Sadler (1-0, 2.08) will toe the rubber for Indianapolis.
