Hooks Snap Skid

Duffy and Heras hit back-to-back home runs in the first
April 20, 2014

FRISCO - Matt Duffy drove in four runs and Tommy Shirley authored four perfect innings of relief Sunday afternoon as Corpus Christi shook off a five-game losing streak by capturing a 7-5 victory over the RoughRiders in the series finale at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Andrew Aplin and Matt Duffy coaxed consecutive two-out walks from Jerad Eickhoff in the first. Duffy followed by belting a 2-2 offering over left-field fence. Leo Heras sent the next pitch into the pool in right-center, putting the Hooks ahead 4-0.

With one away in the second, Telvin Nash belted a solo shot off the roof of the pavilion down the left field.

Frisco (11-5), riding a franchise-record, 10-game winning streak, erupted in the third to tie the game. The RoughRiders sent nine men to the plate against Matt Heidenreich. A three-run homer off the bat of Trever Adams highlighted the barrage.

The Hooks (9-7) took the lead back in the fourth. Chris Epps tripled off the wall in right field and scored on a Joe Sclafani single to left-center.

Andrew Robinson and Patrick Urckfitz combined for two scoreless innings.

Shirley entered in the sixth and retired all 12 men he faced, striking out six.

Corpus Christi opens an eight-game homestand Monday night with the first of four against Midland. The Texas tandem of Brady Rodgers (0-1, 1.56) and lefty Colton Cain (0-0, 4.73) pitch for the Hooks. The RockHounds counter with Shawn Haviland.
